this semester i am working on a solo for my dance making class. in the solo i want to investigate my relationship to visual art; existing work created by visual artists, visual art created by dancers, visual art i will create myself, etc. this week i have been feeling a little unmotivated/overwhelmed with where to begin on this thing so today i went to MoMa hoping to find inspiration…
here are a couple of fantastic things that happened:
-MoMa is currently having an exhibition on abstract expressionists, probably my favorite artistic movement/group of artists EVER.
-there was also a random dance performance by Ralph Lemon, a dancer/choreographer who’s work I hadn’t seen before and thoroughly enjoyed
-i experimented with this sound recorder thing i borrowed from my school’s av department to record the sounds of the crowds in the museum and it worked wonderfully. i am thinking about integrating these recordings into my sound score for the piece.
-i have a not so bad cold right now that is giving me sexy, raspy, throaty voice. (i mean, this is irrelevant but i hardly ever get raspy voice, usually i get crazy nasally annoying voice so i’m feeling kinda good about myself [i’m sick! i should not be happy about it!])
all in all a GREAT day. inspiring, fun, motivating, wonderful.
just what i needed!
