a revelation, kind of
every time i try to be a grown up type person, something happens that is basically me failing to be a grown up person. so i guess i’m not ready to be a grown up yet? i’m giving up trying. here’s to still being a kid, i’ll try to grow up again in a few more years.
(blah blah blah i know it’s a process and whatever but, like, WHATEVER)
this came out super angsty, i’m not angsty! mostly just laughing at myself this week for all of the well-intentioned screw ups i’ve managed to accomplish.
I have an MFA! It’s been a crazy two years but definitely two of the best years of my life. Sarah Lawrence College I will miss you.
this year i’ve been learning a lot about totem animals. some of them seem to come and go, last fall snakes were very present in my life, but some are definitely with you for your entire life. today i had the realization that one of my permanent totem animals is the praying mantis.
Power of calmness, stillness, silence, time of meditation, inner reflection, stillness in healing or in creativity, teaches how to manipulate surroundings with skill, direct the body’s energy to empower the body. Are you taking some quiet time for yourself? Are you being patient with those around you? Are you moving toward your goals? However slow it may take, patience and perseverance is the key. Are you allowing the time to stop and pause in between tasks? Are listening carefully to yourself, others and your surroundings - in other words are you paying attention? Praying Mantis can teach you how to balance these energies.
this description really resonates with me, i have a lot to learn from the patience and stillness of the mantis! also, no man-eater jokes please…
So this weekend I am performing in three historic dance works choreographed by Yvonne Rainer up at Dia Beacon. Guess who came to the performance today?
Yoko Ono saw me dance! She gave all of us performers a standing ovation! Happiest day ever!
i am sure i just lost a lot of brain cells due to bleach. my mom is coming to visit and even though i am a messy slob (which isn’t my fault, who has time to clean in grad school???) she doesn’t need to know that. my bathroom smells like a swimming pool.
MY BEST FRIEND’S WEDDING!
this happened a few weeks ago, but isn’t it great when the photos get posted and you get to relive all of the fun memories?
